We got licensed in the fall (2019) and received our first placement a few weeks later.
❔ Why did you begin fostering?
We began fostering because we saw the need. We started seriously praying and stayed there for 2 years. Praying, waiting and having conversations together and with our daughter. People just kept saying “It is a broken system. It is really hard.” The more we prayed the more we heard God say “Yes, so get in”. It is messy, but that does not mean it is not worth it. We wanted to be a safe place for kids while being hopeful and praying for their bio parents.
❔ What has God taught you during your foster care journey?
God has taught us that each step can feel happy and heartbreaking at the same time and that is ok. He also reminds us that we are not in control. We trust that God loves and desires more for these kids that we can ever understand, so when we enter into their story for a season, however long it may be, we do it with open hands.
❔ What hope do you hold onto during the difficult seasons?
Exodus 14:14 “The Lord will fight for you, you need only be silent.” This verse says so much. When our minds are racing or emotions are high we remind ourselves that God fights. He fights for the broken, the heart broken and the lonely. On those days when I cannot even find the words to pray, He knows and He fights.
